Capital Campaign Manager for Friends of Stewart Park

The Friends of Stewart Park (FSP), a private nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement, enhancement, and maintenance of Stewart Park, the City of Ithaca’s premier lakefront park, is seeking a Campaign Manager for its upcoming Capital Campaign for the Wharton Studio & Cafe project in Stewart Park. The Campaign is being organized and run jointly by FSP and Wharton Studio Museum, FSP’s partner in park revitalization for the past many years.

To date, FSP has built a new and accessible $1.7 million accessible playground; restored the exterior and interior of the Picnic Pavilion; restored and made accessible the Stewart Park’s 1951 carousel; restored the exterior of the Cascadilla Boathouse (on the National Register of Historic Places), designed and installed interpretive signage (with WSM) on the park’s historic buildings, as well as new directional signage; and enhanced the landscaping at the park’s entrance, among other projects.

The Wharton Studio & Cafe project includes a Performance Plaza, Lake Overlook and restored Picnic Pavilion Veranda in its scope.


Position 

The Capital Campaign Manager position is a part-time, staff position, reporting to WSM’s Executive Director who is also Board President of FSP.  This is a hands-on campaign management and fundraising position with some flexibility for remote work and hours. The Campaign Manager should expect to work occasional evening and weekend hours for special events or meetings. The position would begin immediately. 

Responsibilities
Capital Campaign Administration and Solicitation

  •  Overseeing development of case-making documents for project support, proposals, and   other appointment and solicitation communications

  •  Identifying and researching prospective donors including individuals, corporations, and foundations

  • Asking for gifts, sometimes in partnership with the Executive Directors, board members or other volunteers

  • Managing stewardship including acknowledgements and ongoing contact reports

  •  Keeping records for prospect activity and strategy including timelines for solicitations

Campaign Partnership Management

  • Managing board or other fundraising volunteers, identifying and orienting new members

  • Scheduling and guiding meetings; preparing campaign progress reports; managing committee assignments, progress, and gift closings

  • Updating the FSP and WSM boards about fundraising progress

  • Supporting FSP’s and WSM’s relationships with the City of Ithaca, government and public officials, other stakeholders for Stewart Park

Job Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 3+ years experience in fundraising

  • Exemplary communication abilities and outgoing, yet poised personality

  • Experience with word processing and spreadsheets

  • Strong project management skills

  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, fundraising, public relations, journalism or related/applicable area

  • 5+ years of fundraising experience

  • Knowledge of CRM and other relevant software

The hourly pay rate for the Fundraising Coordinator position ranges from $25 to $32 per hour, based on experience.  Hours worked per week can vary from 16 to 20 hours per week depending on employer and employee schedules.

About Stewart Park and Friends of Stewart Park

Located at the southern tip of Cayuga Lake, City of Ithaca-owned Stewart Park comprises 170 acres and the 8 mile Cayuga Waterfront Trail meanders through Stewart Park and connects to the Farmer’s Market and the West End including Cass Park.

Since its creation in 2011, Friends of Stewart Park has been engaged in multi-year, multi-phase fundraising for specific capital projects while growing a base of annual fund support.  FSP is partnered with the City of Ithaca, Wharton Studio Museum, and others in the revitalization of the park.

Ongoing projects include the construction of a new Splash Pad adjacent to the playground, construction of an Addition to the south facade of the Picnic “Large” Pavilion, and the design and installation of interpretive and directional signage throughout the park.
