On Friday, May 8, we celebrated the completion of Phase II of the restoration of the Fuertes Overlook and Trail.
This project, which took almost 10 years to finish, is a wonderful example of what can happen when community members, volunteers, donors, historians, birders, craftspeople, and our public partners all come together around a shared commitment to preserving and improving Stewart Park.
Thank you to the City of Ithaca, the Triad Foundation, Reilly Masonry, Accufab, the Schaeffer Foundation, the estate of Dr. Tapan Mitra, the Community Foundation, and the Cayuga Bird Club for their support of various stages of this project.
We hope this restoration helps ensure that future generations will continue to discover this special corner of the park — whether they come to watch birds, learn about local history, enjoy the craftsmanship of the overlook itself, or simply take in the view.
